A DAY OUT AT LORDS CRICKET GROUND
Sadaf Arshad reports about an exciting day out for Osterley Colts.....
On Sunday 26th April, 27 Osterley Cricket Club members and family set off to visit Lords Cricket Ground.
Some made their way by car, and 21 of us ventured up on the tube. We met up at Osterley Station around 10.30 where our journey began. The children were very excited to be travelling by tube. It was a first for many, our children were very confident as we made our way through the busy tube stations, only stopping for head counts being carried out by Farah.
The whole group finally met up at Lords, Grace Gate. Reaching our destination was absolutely amazing. Lords Cricket Ground The Home of British Cricket!!. We made our way around the huge grounds; our first stop was of course the toilets.
Our children entered the 2009 Friends Provident Club Superstar Competition. Here our Colts had their abilities tested on the Lords nursery ground. The competition was in three parts: bowling at the stumps, batting between cones and running and throwing the ball at stumps. This was a great place to yell and scream encouragement to our children. The parents got busy filling in forms to enter the competition, and then the children took turns at each event showing off their cricket skills.
They all performed impressively and a few reluctant children even surprised themselves with great performances. The children were scored on their performances and we were told that winners in each age group would be announced later that day. We were hopeful that at least one child from our group would win.
We then moved upwards literally. The stairs took us to the seating. We watched a match that was being played between Middlesex CCC and Scotland. Once seated everyone began to eat and enjoy the match. Middlesex were batting and the children really enjoyed watching the match and waved their cards every time a batsman hit a four or six.
At half time, spectators were allowed on the cricket ground. Our children had brought along bats and balls so they played some shots and a few decided to roll around on the grass. They were thrilled to be actually playing on the same ground as world class cricket players!!!
While walking on the grass, a few of our parents spotted the winners names being announced on the large scoreboards. Osterley CC parents dashed for their cameras and took photos of the 30foot boards. Why? Three of our children had won their events. We swiftly moved to the ceremony area where the winners were awarded trophies by two Middlesex players and official photographs were taken!!
Overall the day was definitely one to remember. It was a first for many, everyone thoroughly enjoyed themselves and the warm and sunny weather made it even more pleasant. We got back to Osterley Station by 5.20pm exhausted but really happy.
Thank you to all the parents for helping to make this trip possible, and to Farah for organizing the trip.
Well done to Saad Arshad, Mariya Rizvi and Fizza Rizvi for winning their events
We look forward to visiting Lords again. Next time we want all 6 events won by Osterley CC Colts!
